Pole Formations
Using Polepods brings more versatility to pole use, Polepods can be used to vary the height of poles, the poles can be arranged in many formations and can be worked over in walk, trot and canter. This versatility provides the opportunity for horses and riders, at all levels, to benefit from using Polepods.
Approximate distances between poles
Walk: 2½ ft (0.8m) Trot: 4ft - 4½ ft (1.2m - 1.4m) Canter: 11½ ft (3.5m)
These distances are a rough guide only. Adjust according to the size of your horse and cater for each horses individual stride length. You can lengthen or shorten the distance between poles for lengthening and shortening strides. Single Polepods height is easier for the horse and rider, using double height Polepods increase the intensity of the workload. As a safety measure, ensure your horse is warmed up sufficiently and build up the intensity gradually. The following examples are a few of the formations that are possible. There are many other formations to try, have a go and see.
Height Combinations

Polepods and Pole Height Combinations

Use Polepods singularly or as doubles to create a variety of height options.
Starting with A being the easiest arrangement, through to E which is more challenging.

Polepods are safe and resilient for use around horses, are suitable to use on most surfaces and are maintenance free and weather proof. Polepods are for all, young and old, experienced and inexperienced. The lightweight Polepods have been designed to use with poles and are ideal for all abilities and all disciplines.

Size of individual
Polepods
  • Diameter = 5½ inches (140mm)

  • Height = 4 inches (101mm)

  • Weight = 8.83 oz (250 gram)
Height including
standard 4 inch pole
  • Single Polepods and standard pole
    = 7½ inches (190mm)

  • Double Polepods and standard pole
    = 10 inches (255mm)
The given dimensions are approximate. Polepods are designed for ground schooling purposes, it is therefore recommended that you do not exceed double Polepods height plus pole height for schooling purposes. Polepods have been designed to stack together in large quantities for carrying, storage and transportation purposes.

Polepods have been designed to cup a standard 4 inch diameter pole.
The weight of the pole also further stabalizes the Polepods. This design has been structured to incorporate the safety feature of allowing the pole to fall away if kicked by the horse, reducing the risk of the horse tripping. Although Polepods were designed for equine use, many individuals have suggested they would also be suitable for use in dog agility training.
